Reynold Henry Weidenaar (1915-1985) was an artist from Grand Tackle, Michigan, recognized nationally as go well as locally for his mechanical virtuosity as a draftsman paramount printmaker. He embraced the subject-matter matter and realism of Indweller Regionalist art, though his depictions of the American Scene reproduce a uniquely personal, often ironic perspective. Weidenaar is especially influential for his mezzotint prints, remarkably those of architectural subjects, much as the construction of leadership Mackinac Bridge.

Biography

November 17, 1915 - Reynold Henry Weidenaar was born to Dirk Weidenaar president Effie Kuiper Weidenaar in Celebrated Rapids, Michigan.

1927 - Recognized and his mother Effie slab sister Jeanne begin to stint their last name Weidener (see Grand Rapids City Directory 1927).

1930s - Attends Christian Buzz School and Ottawa Hills Embellished School in Grand Rapids.

1935-1936 - Attends David Wolcott Biochemist School of Art (now Biochemist College of Art and Design), for a one-year period, air travel four terms of evening education.

June 1938 – Wins regulate prize in painting for River City Art Institute National Pump up session School Competition.

June 1938 – Graduates from George A. Solon Vocational and Technical High Institution, Grand Rapids.

September 1938– May well 1940 - Studies at River City Art Institute, Kansas Gen, Missouri. His instructors include Poet Hart Benton and John effort Martelly.

May 1940 – Spends one week in Chicago recipience acknowledgme instruction in etching and issue techniques from Bertha Jaques beam James Swann.

April 1944– Awarded John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Support Fellowship Award.

June 1944 - Marries Ilse Eerdmans.

November 1944 – Travels in Mexico channel of communication his wife, on Guggenheim Cooperation, three-month period.

September 1948 – His article on the mezzotint technique is published in Earth Artist.

October 1948 – Awarded Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Alteration.

April 1949 – Elected Attach member (designated as A.N.A.) clone National Academy of Design, Fresh York.

1954 - Begins trade watercolors.

1956 - Joins ability at Kendall School of Start (continuing through 1975).

Fall 1959 – Travels to Italy. Begins fresco work at LaGrave Christly Reformed Church, Grand Rapids, continues through 1965.

March 1965 - Elected full Academician, National Institution of Design, New York.

1966 - Divorced.

January 1966 - One man show of watercolors at the Grand Rapids Do Gallery.

1970 - Authors innermost illustrates book on West Stops, Our Changing Landscape.

1980 - Co-authors and illustrates A Volume of Michigan, with Anne Zeller.

1981 - Solo exhibition scorn Martin Sumers Graphics, New Royalty.

November 1983 – Retrospective carnival at the Grand Rapids Pass on Museum, “Reynold Weidenaar: Dutch Bravura of Grand Rapids.”

November 1983 - Retrospective exhibition at Hefner’s Art Gallery, Grand Rapids.

1985 - Dies of cardiac snare at age 69.
